Book Review: Revelry by Kandi Steiner

Title: Revelry
Author: Kandi Steiner
Release Date: April 20, 2017
Add to TBR

From the bestselling author of Weightless and A Love Letter to Whiskey
Wren Ballard is trying to find herself.
She never expected to be divorced at twenty-seven, but now that the court date has passed, it’s official. The paperwork is final. Her feelings on it aren’t.
Spending the summer in a small mountain town outside Seattle is exactly what she needs. The peaceful scenery is a given, the cat with the croaky meow is a surprise, but the real kicker? A broody neighbor with nice arms, a strange reputation, and absolutely no interest in her.
Anderson Black is perfectly fine being lost.
He doesn’t care about the town’s new resident — he’s too busy fighting his own demons. But when he’s brought face to face with Wren, he can see her still-fresh wounds from a mile away. What he doesn’t see coming is his need to know who put them there — or his desperation to mend them.

Sometimes getting lost is the way to find yourself. Sometimes healing only adds a new scar. And sometimes the last place you expected to be is exactly where you find home.

Jessica’s Review

For all the hopeless romantics out there, this is for you. This love story will make your heart soar but also feel the heartache that Anderson and Wren feel. Kandi Steiner did an incredible job of making the story feel and heartfelt.
This story took place in the mountain’s, an hour outside of Seattle. I was all kinds of nostalgic picturing Ballard and Belltown and then the incredible mountains surrounding the city. Its impossible not to fall in love with those mountains.
Like most of my favorite love stories, it wasn’t so simple for them to love or even be together. Both Anderson and Wren have had their worlds turned upside down and fallen so deep in their despair that neither of them knew where to find the light to get out. Their situations and experiences were completely different yet somehow they were able to understand each others pain and help each other get through.
If you need a little reminder of love and hope, grab this book. No love story is ever easy and this book showed you that in so many ways. We all need a little hope and Revelry may just be the key to spark that in you again.

Kandi Steiner is a bestselling author and whiskey connoisseur living in Tampa, FL. Best known for writing “emotional rollercoaster” stories, she loves bringing flawed characters to life and writing about real, raw romance — in all its forms. No two Kandi Steiner books are the same, and if you’re a lover of angsty, emotional, and inspirational reads, she’s your gal.
An alumna of the University of Central Florida, Kandi graduated with a double major in Creative Writing and Advertising/PR with a minor in Women’s Studies. She started writing back in the 4th grade after reading the first Harry Potter installment. In 6th grade, she wrote and edited her own newspaper and distributed to her classmates. Eventually, the principal caught on and the newspaper was quickly halted, though Kandi tried fighting for her “freedom of press.” She took particular interest in writing romance after college, as she has always been a die hard hopeless romantic, and likes to highlight all the challenges of love as well as the triumphs.

When Kandi isn’t writing, you can find her reading books of all kinds, talking with her extremely vocal cat, and spending time with her friends and family. She enjoys live music, traveling, anything heavy in carbs, beach days, movie marathons, craft beer and sweet wine — not necessarily in that order.

Jonte Williamson has a dream: become Nashville’s next big star. Finding herself unexpectedly homeless hot off the plane wasn’t part of her grand plan.

When Jonte stumbles into Cash’s bar, helping out the homeless country music wannabe is the last thing on his agenda. Pity someone forgot to send the memo to his too-big heart and meddling twin. Throw in a pair of baby blue cowboy boots, a pool table and a splash of tequila, and these two are set to ignite in a hot sexy mess! Will either of their hearts survive the tug-o-war between what they want and what they need?

Goodreads / Amazon

My Review:

Jonte moves to Nashville from Australia in hopes of following her dream of being a singer. Only problem is, everything falls apart within hours of getting in the city. Nowhere to live and no phone or computer, she stumbles into a rock bar and meets sexy Cash and his twin sister Dolly. Dolly decides to offer to help Jonte help through Cash but how do you just accept help from 2 strangers you just met even if one is incredibly hot.

Jonte promises her family 6 weeks to get on her feet and further her singing career or she will go back home. Cash makes it all possible but now the problem is how do they keep their feelings at bay when the future is unknown.

This book is seriously everything you could want in a romance novel. Sexy country boys, music, drama and good ol’ grandparents. Nanny and Pop were seriously one of my favorite characters especially when Jonte meets Nanny. I died. Their was so much romance and lust brewing all over the place. Seriously though, if you are reading this review then you need to go grab this book. You’ll get sucked in and love every second!

My Review:

This was such a sweet love story and perfect for a summer beach read. Anyone who has gone on vacation for the summer has had that dreamy thought of what if I meet someone here and have this epic vacation love or we fall in love forever. Gunnison and Marleigh have instant chemistry. From the moment they laid eyes on each other they knew their lives would never be the same. An epic love was definitely in the cards for them but they never expecting an even bigger life altering change.

Marleigh and Gunnison try the long distance thing until one day Marleigh suddenly breaks up with GC. Secrets can never remains secrets though and eventually Marleigh has no choice but to come clean.

I seriously about died when the truth came out. I mean we all knew Marleigh was about to spill the beans but the way it happened actually surprised me. If I was her I don’t know how I would even react. It was lovely seeing them grow up so quickly and trying to find their place and handling everything as adults and as co-parents. Even though the majority of the book was very predictable, a lot of it was very realistic and kind of the ideal way that someone in their situation would wish it would play out. It was a fun read and I definitely enjoyed it. If you find yourself sitting by the pool or beach I would say this is a good read while soaking up some sun.

About Casey Peeler

Casey Peeler grew up in North Carolina and still lives there with her husband and daughter.

Growing up Casey wasn’t an avid reader or writer, but after reading Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neal Hurston during her senior year of high school, and multiple Nicholas Sparks’ novels, she found a hidden love and appreciation for reading. That love ignited the passion for writing several years later, and her writing style combines real life scenarios with morals and values teenagers need in their daily lives.

When Casey isn’t writing, you can find her near a body of water listening to country music with a cold beverage and a great book.

My Review:

This was seriously one of the most adorable stories I’ve read in a long time. Natalie and Toby have been friends their whole lives but grew apart when Toby’s hockey career took off. Now that his cousin and arch-nemesis is back, Natalie is back and has a horrible plan to fake date so that she can get with Scott. The last thing either of them saw coming was how easy it was to be together and the fire they felt during every touch and kiss.

Natalie was so determined to finally have Scott that she didn’t see anything else happening around her. Toby is finally the best friend that she missed and he is pushing her to follow her dreams. She went from being depressed and accepting that dreams don’t come true to believe she can have all that she wants. When she finally gets her chance with Scott, she isn’t sure if he is still the one for her.

Toby was so sweet! I just wanted to take him for myself. He took everything in stride and rolled with the punches. He didn’t let his feud with Scott taint anything else in his life. He was focused on making himself better and going after his dreams. Even though he had all this going on he still went above and beyond to be there for Natalie and help her achieve her goals. What a stinking dream boat!!! Seriously guys you need to read this. It isn’t like a normal corny high school romance. IT’S PRECIOUS!

But Karen isn’t interested in starting something with a player. And that’s all she keeps hearing about Tyler.

Corrigan Falls is a hockey town, and Tyler’s the star player. But the viselike pressure from his father and his agent are sending him dangerously close to the edge. Assigned to tutor Chris Winslow, a prank-loving, gorgeous hockey player, Claudia’s perfectly planned life immediately veers off course. And she kind of likes it. But as fun as Chris is, she knows she’ll never fit in his world.
After his latest prank lands him in hot water, Chris has to get serious about school or lose hockey. Not an easy thing for someone as carefree as the defenseman. The biggest problem, though, is how much he wants to help his cute, buttoned-up tutor loosen up a little. But while confidence has never been a problem for him, around Claudia, Chris is all nerves. Why would a girl as smart as her ever fall for a jock like him?

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Cate Cameron grew up in the city but moved to the country in her mid-twenties and isn’t looking back. Most of her writing deals with people living and loving in small towns or right out in the sticks—when there aren’t entertainment options on every corner, other people get a lot more  interesting!

She likes to write stories about real people struggling with real issues. YA, NA, or contemporary  romance, her books are connected by their emphasis on subtle humor and characters who are trying to do the right thing, even when it would be a lot easier to do something wrong.

Book Review: You Were Here by Cori McCarthy

You Were Here by Cori McCarthy
Sourcebooks Fire
Pub Date 01 Mar 2016
Received to review by Netgalley
Teens & YA

Synopsis:

Jaycee is about to accomplish what her older brother Jake couldn’t: live past graduation.

Jaycee is dealing with her brother’s death the only way she can- by re-creating Jake’s daredevil stunts. The ones that got him killed. She’s not crazy, okay? She just doesn’t have a whole lot of respect for staying alive.

Jaycee doesn’t expect to have help on her insane quest to remember Jake. But she’s joined by a group of unlikely friends- all with their own reasons for completing the dares and their own brand of dysfunction: the uptight, ex-best friend; the heartbroken poet; the slacker with Peter Pan syndrome; and…Mik. He doesn’t talk, but somehow still challenges Jayce to do the unthinkable-reveal parts of herself that she buried with her brother.

Cori McCarthy’s gripping narrative defies expectation moving seamlessly from prose to graphic novel panes and word art poetry. From the petrifying ruins of an insane asylum to the skeletal remains of the world’s largest amusement park, You Were Here takes you on an unforgettable journey of friendship, heartbreak, and inevitable change.

Review:

Cori McCarthy has blown me away. I knew this book was going to be good but wow I’m seriously struggling trying to come up with the words to describe my love for this book.

Jaycee Strangelove lost her brother and can’t seem to cope with it. She watched him die from a dare gone wrong. Each year on the anniversary of his death she goes back to the park where he died and the abandoned asylum he loved to go to where she would always meet with Mik. Jaycee feels as though she’s loosing touch with her brother so she decides to start doing his dares to feel closer to him. Only problem is it takes her a step closer to death.

After the accident Jaycee’s best friend Natalie turns her back on her and leaves her to mend her broken heart alone. Natalie has unbearable guilt for leaving Jaycee and needs forgiveness before she starts her new life in New York but she also wants her friend back. On this last summer after graduation Natalie catches Jaycee doing a “dare” and takes it upon herself to fix Jaycee. The last thing she expected was to spend of summer full of crazy adventures in abandoned building and a roller coaster of emotions.

I have a deep love for books with multiple POV’s. I didn’t it was possible to make 5 POV’s work but man Cori McCarthy killed it! The main POV’s are from Jaycee, Natalie and Zack (Natalie’s boyfriend). Mik is a selective mute which is pretty awesome because all of his chapters are formatted like a graphic novel. Bishop’s are his graffiti artwork.

This book sucked you in to each character and made you feel what it was like to be in each persons shoes. Jaycee pushed her emotions on everyone to the point that you could feel her deep loss. I loved to see the growth in each person and how they become firm in who they are. I could honestly go on and on about this book but all that matters is that you go and read it yourself. It may sound a little depressing but seriously give it a chance. It will change your perspective and shine light on things that you wouldn’t have ever thought about!

Review:

I’m such a sucker for rock star books. Throw in some tattoos and make them gorgeous and I’m sold. This book had that and so much more! Will is the bassist in Ruby Riot and completely smitten with Fleur. He of course makes a fool of himself and pretty much ruins his chanced with her. Fleur is wanting Ethan whom she believes is on her level intellectually and the perfect fit for her. Will is failing history and needs Fleur’s help but she wants nothing to do with him so he decided to pretend to be his brother to get her help.

Love and chemistry have a way of picking up and not the other way around so before she even realizes it Fleur starts falling him Will but she thinks its his twin brother Nate. Now Will has to come clean but how can he do that knowing what she thinks of him.

I absolutely loved this book. Will is such a great character and Lisa developed all the characters perfectly. I definitely have a new book-boyfriend! ❤

Lisa is an Amazon bestselling author of contemporary and paranormal romance. She is originally from the UK and moved to Australia in 2001. She now lives in Perth, Western Australia with her husband, three children, and Weimaraner, Tilly, who often makes appearances on Lisa’s social media.

In the past, Lisa worked as an English teacher in France, as an advertising copywriter in England, and ran her own business in Australia. Now she spends her days with imaginary rock stars.

She lived in Europe as a child and also travelled when she left university. This has given Lisa stories which would sound far-fetched if she wrote them down, and maybe one day she will. These days, Lisa is happy in her writing cave, under Tilly’s supervision.
