Under the Trees by Ashley Maker
Genre: YA Historical Romance
Release Date: March 20th 2016
Summary from Goodreads:
Desperate to prevent an abusive arranged marriage, Princess Araya flees to a neighboring kingdom, only to land at the mercy of the impulsive Crown Prince Thoredmund, who provides refuge in a secluded forest and teaches her survival skills. Her surprise at the unexpected hold the prince has on her heart mirrors his shock at falling for the one girl he can’t have.
As the young couple’s feelings for each other grow, the fragile alliance between the two kingdoms threatens to break apart. With a vengeful duke and an enraged king fast on their trail, Thor and Araya must decide how much they’re willing to risk for love.
Even if staying together means starting a war.
Araya ran away from her kingdom after her father wouldn’t listen to her. She was terrified and did what any of us would do and tried to save herself. She ran into enemy territory and when she came upon a camp fire she thought she reached the end of her escape but they allowed her to pass. Prince Thor has no clue who she was or why she was there but he stopped her pursuers and then did everything in his power to keep her safe. Unfortunately for the both of them, that is easier said than done. The last thing they expected was to find themselves trying to find ways to keep each other alive or find love.
They were seriously so precious. Thor was so gentle and did what ever Araya wanted or needed. Araya was like a skitish cat. She wanted to run at every turn and all she could think about was surviving. Her strength was admirable. They way everything unravelled and came together was just so adorable and great. It was very short so everything developed really fast which gave me some mixed feelings but overall it was a good story.
Randomly I think about peoples hygiene in books. For instance in this book when the big first kiss happened all I could think about is how bad her breath must smell. I know its a historical romance so obviously back in the kings and queens court days they were up to our level of brushing teeth and what now but man think about all the bad breath going around. Ha ha ok I’m done rambling. In all seriousness, this was a very sweet story. If you’ve read the River Of Time series then you will enjoy this short read.
